WHEN NATURE SHOWS ITS WRATH
![]() |
Taliyan Falls, Impasugong, Bukidnon before and during the flashflood |
I and my trek buddies were stranded for more than an hour. After a halfday trek, we decided to pass by Taliyan Waterfall in Impasugong, Bukidnon just beside mighty Tagoloan River. We just took a short rest after taking our lunch. We took time to cool our bodies down before taking a dip. Suddenly the sky got dim and a heavy rain poured down. We hid ourselves under rocks and cavern hoping the rain would soon end.
The rain got heavier. Waters started to drip inside our hiding refuge. We were supposed to go home under the rain. Yet we could no longer cross the small creek. The roaring water turned chocolatey. So we waited for more than an hour witnessing the gentle waterfall turn into a monster.

BONTONGON VILLAGE: An "Uphell" Paradise
Bontongon is the least populated hinterland barangay of Impasugong, Bukidnon. It is wonderfully situated at the neck of a mountain. It is an exhilarating picturesque, adorned with view of rolling hills and twisting rivers. This barangay, I must say is also the most difficult to travel. It is not as far as Bulonay nor Hagpa, yet going to this barangay is a 2-hour arduous "uphell" from Poblacion. Bontongon can be reached by crossing three grand rivers. Habal-habal is the most preferred transportation. If given an ample time, I would rather trek than take a ride getting there.

CEDAR: ANOTHER BUKIDNON'S WEEKEND GETAWAY
CEDAR, Center for Ecological Development and Recreation, in Impalutao, Impasugong, Bukidnon is another adventure spot in the province. It is situated just beside the highway. It is equipped with a very cool manmade swimming pool, sourcing from the natural springs surrounding the area. CEDAR is also a reforestation project site of the tribe-dominated town of Impasugong. It has a camping site, venue, basketball court and picnic amenities

TREKKING 2013: MY TOP 25 TREKS IN PHOTOS
My 2013 was not as well trekked as 2012. However, every trek I had was memorable though most were done in my homeland BUKIDNON. Many of my treks were new and still unknown to many. Here are the list of my top 25 trips for 2013.
1. TREKKING MT. DULANG-DULANG (January 2013)
This trek was truly frustrating. The trek was both started and ended under heavy downpour brought by an untimely storm in a dry season. I missed the magnificent view of the mountain's landscape. Dulang-dulang is the second highest peak of the country settles in Mt. Kitanglad Range in Bukidnon.

PANOON FALLS: A SHORT BUT ARDUOUS TREK
Atugan Falls |
Panoon Falls in Impasugong, Bukidnon is not really famous
compared to Atugan Canyon and Atugan Bridge. Panoon creek and and irrigation dam from Brgy. La Fortuna are the tributaries of Panoon Falls. It powers a 2 megawatts mini-hydro plant tapped by Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative. From Malaybalay, one can see the
signage of Atugan Falls at the intersection of the old and new highways in
Capitan Bayong.
