MASJID DIMAUKOM: The Pink Mosque of Peaceful Mindanao

Masjid Dimaukom, also known as the Pink Mosque of Maguindanao, is situated at the heart of Datu Saudi Ampatuan town. Mayor Samsodin Dimaukom financed the construction of the mosque completed mid-2014. Its pink color was intended to symbolize peace and love, aside from being favorite color of his wife. Christian workmen were tasked to build this Islamic structure to emphasize unity and inter-faith brotherhood. The mosque is a walking distance from the national highway. It is open for tourists.

My trip from Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat to Lake Sebu, South Cotabato allowed me to pass by the pink town of Saudi Ampatuan. When I started to see the pink flaglets and structures, I requested the driver to drop me at a stop closest to the mosque. I didn't mind for the refund of my fare to Isulan.  He pulled over at the roundball in front of municipal hall. The Maguindanaon armed men at the checkpoint gently guided my way to the mosque. After a short walk, I entered the compound with no entrance fee. Everyone was so welcoming.

I, alone, freely got inside and outside of the majestic house, roaming around its every corner. The designs, furnishings and everything so astonished me.

After half an hour, I took a jeep to Isulan passing through other towns of Maguindanao.

HOW TO GET THERE:

From Cotabato City, take a jeep or bus bound for Isulan, Tacurong or Gensan. Drop off at roundball in front of Municipal Hall of Datu Saudi Ampatuan town. Take a short walk to the mosque.

From Gensan City, take a bus bound for Cotabato City. Drop off at roundball in front of Municipal Hall of Datu Saudi Ampatuan town. Take a short walk to the mosque.

    1. hi, sara. everyone who hasn't been to maguindanao has the notion that the place is dangerous. but it is no different from the rest of mindanao and the whole country. beauty and danger is all around. just don't forget that it always pays to be careful.
