THE PINK SAND BEACH OF SANTA CRUZ ISLAND, ZAMBOANGA CITY

Santa Cruz island of Zamboanga City is known of its pink coralline sand. Santa Cruz, also known as Great Santa Cruz is a protected area along with the nearby Little Santa Cruz.

The island is just 4 kms away from the mainland Zamboanga City. It's exhilarating glory is clearly viewed from Paseo del Mar. It can be reached through a 20 minute chartered boat ride.

It has a wide picnic area with cottages. The island's lush vegetation is encircled by the soothingly fine beach sand.

The pinkish shade of its sand results from the pulverized organ pipe coral mixed with the white sand of the island.

The island is a burial site, hence, considered sacred among the Badjaos.
