MACHALET FALLS: Hidden Silver Lining of Nueva Vizcaya

MACHALET FALLS is a gigantic series of drops situated in hinterlands of Sitio Papalungan, Biyoy, Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya. It has 4 visible tiers. Settlers say there are more but inaccessible tiers above. There are wide pools in both 2nd and 3rd tiers enough for a cool dip.

Trekking from jump-off only takes 20 minutes. From the base of first tier, the other tiers are accessible by carefully passing through rocky wall on the side. Be cautious of the slippery rocks.

Most visitors settle at the third tier where there's a wide pool and rest area.

The area is a home to Ilongot tribe. Be culturally sensitive. Observe Leave No Trace principle.

WHERE TO STAY IN KASIBU

KAFDECO HOMESTAY, owned by Kasibu Farmers Development Cooperative. The coop has also a consumer store and ATM.

HOW TO GET THERE:

Getting to Machalet Falls is truly a challenge for commuters. There's a sole jeepney trip from the town of Bambang direct to Biyoy that departs 1:00 pm everyday.

Another way is to ride a van from Bambang to Poblacion, Kasibu (P60). From there, hire a habalhabal direct to jump off at Sitio Papalungan (P1,500 two-way) including guide fee. Travel time takes 1.5 hours.

For habalhabal and guide services, please contact Carding at 09056083022.
